It is important to note that ceramic sealing is usually applied above the waterline (on the hull, deck and superstructure) to protect the paint, wood or gelcoat.

The underwater hull, which is constantly in contact with water, still requires a special antifouling treatment. Antifouling contains biocides that actively prevent the growth of organisms, which is a different function to the protective layer provided by ceramic sealing.
