Cleaning, sanding, varnishing or staining your garden furniture every year becomes tiresome in the long run and is also hard on the wallet.

Wooden garden furniture should be sealed or treated for several key reasons.

Wood is a natural material that cannot withstand the elements outdoors without protection.

The main reasons for sealing wooden garden furniture are:

1. Protection against moisture and rot

This is the most important aspect for outdoor use.

  • Prevents water ingress: Untreated or poorly protected wood absorbs rainwater.
  • No breeding ground for pests: Damp wood is the ideal breeding ground for fungi, mould and rot-causing bacteria. Our sealant prevents the wood from becoming saturated with moisture, thereby protecting its internal structure.

2. Prevention of cracking and warping

Wood reacts to changing weather conditions by ‘moving’.

  • Stabilisation of the material: When it rains, the wood swells; in sunshine, it dries out quickly and shrinks. This constant process creates tension in the material, which causes cracks, splintering and warping (bending) of the furniture.
  • Moisture regulation: Our special wood sealant slows down this moisture exchange and keeps the wood more elastic.

3. UV protection and colour retention (preventing greying)

The sun also takes a heavy toll on the wood.

  • Protection against UV radiation: Sunlight breaks down lignin, a natural component of wood. This leads to the typical, unsightly greying of the surface.
  • Preserving the appearance: Our sealant contains UV blockers that preserve the wood’s natural colour for much longer.

4. Easier cleaning and hygiene

A treated surface is easier to maintain.

  • Dirt-repellent: A smooth, sealed layer offers less grip to algae, moss, bird droppings and general dirt.
  • Less maintenance: Dirt can be simply wiped away or removed with mild soapy water, rather than having to be laboriously sanded off.

In summary: Our sealant is the essential protective shield for wooden garden furniture, safeguarding it from deterioration caused by water and sun and thus extending its lifespan by years.

Aluminium, stainless steel, steel and others

Garden furniture made from various metals – aluminium, stainless steel, steel and cast iron – should be sealed or coated for reasons of corrosion protection, durability, aesthetics and hygiene.

Although metals react differently to the weather, they all require a protective barrier against the elements outdoors.

1. Why seal steel and iron (cast iron)?

Steel and iron are the metals most at risk when used outdoors.

  • Absolute rust protection (corrosion): Ferrous metals react very quickly and aggressively to moisture and oxygen, forming rust (iron oxide). Rust corrodes the metal and leads to structural failure of the furniture.
  • Essential coating: A paint finish, powder coating or hot-dip galvanising is not an option, but an absolute necessity to hermetically seal the metal. Without this coating, the furniture becomes unusable within a very short time. However, even these coatings are susceptible to attack. Our sealant protects them, making them harder and easier to maintain.

2. Why seal aluminium?

Aluminium is lighter and more corrosion-resistant than steel, but it still needs protection.

  • Protection against oxidation and tarnishing: Aluminium forms a natural protective oxide layer when exposed to air. However, the surface can become unsightly, tarnish or develop stains due to acid rain, salt water (near swimming pools) or chemicals.
  • Preserving the appearance: A powder coating or anodising protects the surface and ensures that the furniture remains shiny or retains its desired colour, rather than looking dull or blotchy; this is encased by the sealant and remains durable for years.

3. Why seal stainless steel?

Stainless steel is considered rust-free, but it is not indestructible, particularly when used outdoors.

  • Prevention of surface rust and pitting: Rust can still form on the surface due to harsh climatic conditions (salty sea air) or contact with foreign rust (surface rust from other metal parts).
  • Fingerprint protection and hygiene: Our sealant (a transparent ceramic layer) protects against fingerprints and limescale stains and makes cleaning easier, ensuring that the shiny or brushed finish is preserved.

Summary of benefits for all metals:

Weather resistance: The sealant protects against rain, snow, UV rays and temperature fluctuations.

Durability: An intact protective coating significantly extends the lifespan of expensive garden furniture.

Aesthetics and hygiene: A smooth, intact surface looks better, is easier to clean and is more hygienic.
