Everyone wants a good night’s sleep. We spend a lot of money on a good mattress, because, as the saying goes, you get what you pay for.
But even the best mattress is not immune to germs, dust mites and their droppings.
Dust mites feed mainly on dead human skin cells that accumulate there, supplemented by fungi, yeasts and bacteria in the damp environment (we sweat up to 2 litres per night). These microscopic arachnids love warm, dark and damp places such as mattresses, where they find a plentiful food source and can reproduce easily. Even though they are not directly dangerous to healthy people, many of us react with physical warning signs.
Their droppings can trigger severe allergic reactions (hay fever, asthma, flare-ups of atopic dermatitis) in sensitive individuals, manifesting as sneezing, a blocked nose, itching, red eyes and breathing difficulties. They are therefore problematic for allergy sufferers and can significantly impair the quality of sleep. Vacuuming with specialised equipment can help to alleviate this.
Vacuuming mattresses is primarily intended to reduce allergens and improve sleep hygiene. As every mattress can harbour millions of dust mites, this measure is particularly relevant for allergy sufferers.
Main reasons for vacuuming (we vacuum to a depth of 38 cm):
1. Reduction of allergens
2. Removing the food source
3. Deep cleaning with our specialist equipment
Conventional vacuum cleaners often simply stir up particles. Our specialist mite vacuum cleaner offers additional benefits:
4. Maintaining mattress hygiene
Further important tips:
Experts recommend not covering the mattress immediately after getting up, but allowing it to air out first, as moisture promotes mite growth. In addition to vacuuming, mite-proof covers (encasings) should be used. Our fabric sealant is also ideal, as it significantly reduces the adhesion of skin flakes or mites.
